Breaking the Ceasefire: A Timeline of Today’s Escalation in Gaza

On Tuesday, March 18 2025, Palestine-Israel ceasefire has ended after a disagreement to continue the second phase of the ceasefire.

2:00 A.M: The first explosion have been heard in the Northwest Gaza with Israelis warplanes flying overhead. Witnesses described series of explosions across Gaza, claimed to be the largest strikes since the 19 January ceasefire began. Israeli army stated, "Under the direction of the political echelon, the army and Shin Bet are widely attacking and targeting Hamas along the Gaza Strip,"

A number of people were killed and injured as Israeli forces shelled tents where Palestinians are staying in the Mawasi area, the west of Khan Younis, Southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli Prime Minister stated that Israel has resumed military operations in Gaza after Hamas rejected the US proposal to extend the ceasefire, where Israel and Hamas have attempted to mediate negotiations after Israel refused to enter the second phase of the ceasefire agreement after the first phase lasted for six weeks.

20 People have been killed and 50 injured after the confirmation of 35 Israeli air strikes have hit Gaza under 30 minutes after its first strike, followed by ambulance and civil defence crews struggled to evacuate the dead and save the wounded.

3:00 A.M: Israel Katz, Israel's defence minister reported to the national media stating, "The gates of hell will be opened on Gaza if Hamas does not release all the captives held in the Palestinian territory. Israel will unleash forces on Hamas that they have never known before",

Mouin Rabbani, as a non-resident fellow at the Middle East Council has told Al-Jazeera that, "It's unclear if the wave of intense air strikes on the Gaza Strip is intended as a single attack or the start of a larger agenda." Throughout his interview, Mouin Rabbani also stated, "The reason we got here is because Israel refused to Implement its commitments on January's ceasefire agreement with Hamas, Israel signed an agreement while refusing to implement the agreement."

The Reuters news has reported from the medics that at least 100 people have been killed, including mothers and children.

The Israeli army accused Hamas of rearming its forces and carry out attacks while targeting senior figures in the Palestinian armed movement, stated by Israel's broadcasting authority.

4:00 A.M: The Gaza Government Media Office reported more than 200 people have been killed in the Israeli bombing of multiple areas across the Strip, Israeli tanks are shelling the eastern areas of the town of Abasan in Khan Younis followed with intense gunfire moving to east of Deir el-Balah and Israeli warplanes dominating the sky.

The renewed war on Gaza resulted in worsening humanitarian crisis, residents are enduring dire essential supplies; Food, cooking gas, fuel followed with the water crisis desalinating plants to shut down due to the fuel shortage.

The White House confirmed that the US President, Donald Trump was consulted ahead of the attack, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on FOX News Interview,

“As President Trump has made clear, Hamas, the Houthis, Iran – all those who seek to terrorise not just Israel but the US – will see a price to pay, and all hell will break loose. The Houthis, Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran and Iranian-backed terror proxies should take President Trump very seriously when he says he’s not afraid to stand for law-abiding people and stand up for the US and our friend and ally Israel.”

9:00 A.M: Israel's Army Spokeperson released an evacuation orders out for the citizens.

To all residents of Beit Hanoun, Khirbet Khuza'a, Abasan al-Kabira, and al-Jadidah, the IDF has launched a strong offensive against terrorist organizations.

*These areas are considered dangerous combat zones!

For your own safety, you must evacuate immediately to the designated shelters in western Gaza City and those in Khan Yunis.

Continuing to remain in these areas puts your lives and the lives of your families in danger.."

10:00 A.M: The Health Ministry of Gaza confirmed the death toll from Israel's strikes on Gaza stands at 326 excluding the number of victims under the rubble and more incoming dead and injured.
