An elderly settler was fatally shot, and a soldier sustained serious injuries in a shooting incident on a northern highway near Yokne’am. The assailant, 25-year-old Karem Jabarin from Ma’ale Iron, began the attack by ramming his vehicle into a bus stop at Tishbi Junction, where a 20-year-old soldier was waiting. After exiting his car, Jabarin stabbed the soldier and then seized his rifle, opening fire on passing vehicles, resulting in the death of 85-year-old Moshe Horan, who was driving with his son.
Emergency services declared Horan dead at the scene, and the soldier was taken to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he remains in serious condition. Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, and footage showed Jabarin firing the rifle before being shot by Border Police officers. This incident has heightened security concerns in the region.
Meanwhile, the official death toll of Palestinians as a result of Israel's genocidal war against Gaza has surpassed 50,000. Israel has rejected all ceasefire proposals, intensifying concerns about the ongoing violence and its impact on civilian populations. Earlier this month, Arab states endorsed an Egyptian reconstruction plan for Gaza at a summit in Cairo, which aimed to counter US President Donald Trump’s proposal to expel Gaza’s residents and take ownership of the land. A US official publicly rejected the Egyptian plan on March 5.
