U.S. President Donald Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin but emphasized continued diplomatic efforts in a recent BBC interview.

This comes amid escalating tensions and new U.S. policies aimed at addressing the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Diplomatic Push Amid Setbacks

Trump voiced disappointment with Putin, stating, "I'm disappointed in him, but I'm not done with him."

He noted several instances where he believed a deal to end the Ukraine conflict was near, only to face setbacks, such as Russian attacks on Kyiv.

The president highlighted his administration’s active role in seeking a resolution, saying, "We're working at it."

Trump’s remarks followed his announcement of a 50-day ultimatum for Russia to agree to a ceasefire, coupled with a commitment to provide Ukraine with advanced weaponry.

Reaffirming NATO Commitment

In a significant shift, Trump endorsed NATO, moving away from his earlier stance of calling the alliance "obsolete."

He praised NATO’s progress, noting that member nations are increasingly meeting their financial commitments, stating, "I think NATO is now becoming the opposite of that."

Trump emphasized the value of collective defense, which he said enables smaller nations to stand against larger adversaries.

This signals a strengthened U.S. commitment to the alliance.

Balancing Domestic and Global Priorities

Trump also highlighted domestic achievements, particularly a significant reduction in illegal border crossings.

He praised his administration’s tax and spending bill, describing it as “the one big beautiful bill” that extends historic tax cuts.

Looking ahead, Trump expressed enthusiasm for a second state visit to the UK to strengthen ties and honor King Charles, whom he called “a great gentleman.”

His focus remains on advancing U.S. interests while navigating complex global challenges.
