Shia LaBeouf Pleads Guilty to Battery Charges Over Mardi Gras Bar Incident

Actor receives probation, treatment requirements and court-ordered conditions

Naffah

Actor Shia LaBeouf has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an incident outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras in February.

The plea agreement, accepted in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on Wednesday, resolves allegations that LaBeouf struck three men during an altercation near the city's Marigny neighborhood.

The actor was ordered to complete probation and comply with a series of court-imposed conditions, including treatment and restrictions related to the victims and location involved in the case.

Court Conditions

LaBeouf pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery connected to the February 17 confrontation.

Orleans Parish Judge Juana Marine-Lombard imposed a six-month suspended sentence and two years of probation.

According to court officials and attorneys involved in the case, LaBeouf must complete an alcohol treatment program, sensitivity training and anger management classes.

He is also required to stay away from the victims and the bar where the incident occurred.

Prosecutors said violations of the agreement could result in additional penalties, including jail time.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said his office consulted with all victims before reaching the plea agreement and that they supported the resolution.

Williams' office said the arrangement creates meaningful legal consequences and enforceable conditions moving forward.

Incident Background

Police arrested LaBeouf after an altercation outside R Bar during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans.

Authorities alleged that he punched two men and head-butted a third after becoming increasingly aggressive.

Police reports and witness accounts stated that homophobic slurs were directed at some of the victims during the confrontation.

Video recordings captured portions of the incident and were later cited during the investigation.

LaBeouf's attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, said her client wanted to take accountability for his part in what happened and characterized the episode as a minor bar dispute.

She also disputed claims that the actor's conduct was motivated by bias.

One of the victims, local entertainer Jeffrey Damnit, had previously called for stronger penalties related to the alleged use of anti-gay slurs.

His attorney, Michael Kennedy, said the outcome underscored that all residents are treated equally under the law regardless of fame or status.
