Russia Condemns Western Interference in Iran's Internal Affairs

Moscow Warns Against Western 'Colour Revolution' Tactics in Iran

Jummah

In a strong rebuke of foreign interference, Russia has formally condemned what it describes as a coordinated Western campaign to exploit domestic unrest in Iran to force illegal political change. The Russian Foreign Ministry has labeled these efforts a gross violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, positioning itself as a principled defender of Iranian sovereignty against external coercion.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova delivered Moscow's firm stance, stating that "regime change as a phenomenon is unacceptable in the modern world," especially from nations that claim to respect the UN Charter. She accused Western countries, including the United States, Israel, and European Union members, of employing a full arsenal of unacceptable methods against Iran. This pressure is not limited to political threats but extends to using "economic, social, and humanitarian" spheres as weapons designed to cripple the nation and manufacture internal instability with the explicit goal of toppling the government.

Zakharova detailed that the West is employing the notorious tactics of so-called "colour revolutions," where externally trained and armed provocateurs infiltrate peaceful protests to incite violence, chaos, and lawlessness. This orchestrated instability, she argued, is a direct attack on a sovereign state with a rich history and democratic traditions. The spokesperson emphasized that the sanctions pressure exerted on Iran for years has deliberately hindered its development, creating economic and social problems that primarily harm ordinary citizens, thereby setting the stage for this foreign-manipulated unrest.

Russia views the partnership with Iran as a cornerstone of stability in a multipolar world and has issued stark warnings against any military escalation. Zakharova declared threats from Washington regarding further military strikes as "categorically unacceptable," stressing that anyone contemplating aggression must fully realize the "grave consequences" such actions would have for the Middle East and global security. Furthermore, Russia "firmly rejects" brazen attempts to blackmail Iran's international trading partners with punitive tariffs, framing it as economic warfare.

While Western analysts speculate about Russia's capacity to intervene, the strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran continues to deepen based on mutual interests and shared opposition to unilateral Western diktats. Russia has reportedly supplied Iran with military equipment, including Mi-28 attack helicopters and electronic warfare systems, which can bolster internal security capabilities. More importantly, Russia offers diplomatic shielding and an alternative model of international engagement. The Kremlin has expressed confidence in the Iranian government's ability to manage its internal affairs through constructive dialogue with its society.
