A New York judge sentenced former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley at his Manhattan apartment in 2006.
The sentence followed Weinstein’s June 2025 conviction at a retrial and extended a legal case that has moved through multiple trials since his first New York conviction in 2020.
Weinstein, 74, maintains his innocence and denies raping or sexually assaulting anyone.
Weinstein was initially convicted in 2020 of assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann, receiving a 23-year prison sentence.
New York’s highest court overturned that conviction in 2024 after finding that he had not received a fair trial.
At his 2025 retrial, jurors convicted Weinstein of a first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley, acquitted him of assaulting former model Kaja Sokola and failed to reach a verdict on the rape charge involving Mann.
A subsequent trial on Mann’s allegation ended in another mistrial in May.
Prosecutors dropped that charge the following month after Mann said she did not want to testify at a fourth trial.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg praised Haley’s testimony and courage following Wednesday’s sentencing.
A Weinstein spokesman said the former producer strongly disagreed with Judge Curtis Farber’s sentence and continued to maintain his innocence.
Weinstein also faces resentencing in California, where he was convicted in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and originally sentenced to 16 years.
A California appeals court upheld those convictions in June but ordered a new sentencing because the trial judge had considered Weinstein’s subsequently overturned New York convictions as an aggravating factor.
Weinstein has already served more than six years as his New York case moved through the courts.
His defense had sought three additional years, citing his health problems and arguing that a longer term increased the likelihood he would die in prison.
Weinstein’s original conviction became a major milestone for the #MeToo movement after allegations against him emerged publicly in 2017.
More than 100 women, including prominent actresses, have accused him of misconduct, allegations he has denied.
