US Signs Presidential Declaration Related To Venezuelan Nationals

The United States has signed a Presidential declaration, invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

A presidential proclamation issued by President Trump uses the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to target Venezuelan members of Tren de Aragua (TdA), a designated terrorist group involved in crimes like drug trafficking.

The Attorney General has been tasked with preparing and disseminating a letter outlining the proclamation's policy. The proclamation directs the apprehension, detention, and removal of these individuals from the US.

The Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security are to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to carry out these actions. All executive departments and agencies are to assist in the apprehension and removal process.

This proclamation allows the U.S. to detain and deport non-naturalized TdA members over 14 years old. The Attorney General and Homeland Security will lead enforcement. A lawsuit challenges the act's use during peacetime, arguing it violates due process, and a judge has temporarily blocked deportations.
