Syria Mobilizes Military Amid Massacres and Insurgency

This is the liveblog for Syria, March 8th, 2025.

According to the Syrian Observatory, at least 428 civilians have been killed in massacres committed by HTS-led government forces, mostly in Alawite majority villages. Among the victims were women and children.

This video is just one of many shared on social media today, some of which are too graphic to show our audience. In the video above, at least 20 Alawite civilians are seen lying dead in the streets.

The exact location of the recording cannot be independently confirmed as of now, but our reporters have verified it is recent and from Syria.

Mass graves have been dug by the local population in Syria's Latakia Governorate, in order to accomodate the large amount of casualties.

Syria's anti-government insurgents have vowed to continue fighting against Jolani's HTS-led Government, in response to the widespread massacres against Alawites and other sectarian and ethnic minorities.
