Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered senior military commanders to prepare for an immediate response to potential threats without geographical restrictions, while directing the armed forces to expand their targeting capabilities against US and Israeli assets.

The directives, issued following a meeting with senior military officials on Saturday, also asserted Tehran’s authority to determine when and under what conditions any renewed conflict would end.

Military Readiness and Deterrence

According to a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), Khamenei instructed commanders to maintain heightened combat readiness and strengthen the country's deterrence capabilities against potential adversaries.

He called for an “immediate and effective response, without geographical restrictions to any potential enemy threat,” according to a statement reported by Iranian media.

Khamenei also ordered an update to Iran’s military target database, known as the Targets Bank, to bring tangible and intangible US and Israeli assets within the operational reach of Iranian forces.

His directives included strengthening military intelligence systems, advancing indigenous defence doctrines and tactics, and incorporating emerging technologies into defence and security capabilities.

Khamenei additionally emphasised coordination between the armed forces and the population, including the Basij paramilitary organisation, which plays a significant role in maintaining internal security.

Regional Tensions Persist

The directives follow warnings from Iranian military officials that renewed hostilities involving Washington and Israel could expand considerably beyond previous areas of confrontation.

Earlier Saturday, Iranian army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia warned that another conflict could encompass a substantially wider geographical area if US President Donald Trump initiated further military action alongside Israel.

Regional tensions have remained elevated since US and Israeli attacks against Iran on February 28 prompted Iranian retaliation across the region.

Although Washington and Tehran subsequently pursued diplomatic negotiations and signed a memorandum in June, disagreements over security arrangements and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz have continued.

Khamenei framed the possibility of renewed fighting within Iran’s broader historical experience of conflict, drawing parallels with the Iran-Iraq war that began in 1980.

His latest instructions underscore Tehran’s intention to strengthen military preparedness while warning that any renewed confrontation could extend beyond previous geographical boundaries.
