Jordan Thwarts Muslim Brotherhood Plot Targeting Israel
The Kingdom of Jordan announced on Tuesday that it had arrested 16 individuals accused of plotting activities intended to “endanger national security.” The plot reportedly involved launching rockets and drones from Jordanian territory in coordinated attacks targeting the State of Israel.
In an official statement, the General Intelligence Department (GID), Jordan’s top intelligence agency, revealed that the suspects had allegedly planned to manufacture rockets using locally sourced materials and improvised tools. The agency further disclosed that the operatives were undergoing military-style training in Jordan and abroad, in preparation for carrying out the planned attacks.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the detained individuals are believed to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the military wing of Hamas. The group was reportedly preparing to launch a series of strikes on Israel, a country currently engaged in a prolonged and devastating conflict with Hamas that began in October 2023.
The Jordanian government, which is widely viewed by many of its citizens as aligned with Western powers and supportive of Israel, has frequently accused Hamas of deliberately inciting unrest and orchestrating protests within the kingdom.
