Pakistan Claims Attack by India Imminent

Islamabad warns of possible military incursion within 36 hours amid rising Kashmir tensions

Late Tuesday, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed the country had received “credible information” indicating that India was preparing to launch a military attack on Pakistan within 24 to 36 hours.

In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), Tarar said India was planning to use last week’s deadly attack in Kashmir as a pretext for military action. He warned that any aggression from India would be met with a response.

The statement came a day after Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told Reuters that an Indian incursion was “imminent.”

The attack in question occurred last week in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir, and left 26 people dead. India has accused Pakistan of playing a role in the incident — a claim Islamabad strongly denies. So far, no group has officially claimed responsibility. Although initial reports suggested The Resistance Front (TRF) was behind the attack, the group has publicly denied involvement.

Amid the rising tensions, Indian media reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the Indian military “a free hand” to respond to the situation as it sees fit.

Videos circulating on social media show troop build-ups along the India-Pakistan border, with both sides appearing to mobilize. Reports also indicate forward air force deployments, with Pakistan activating multiple air bases in the southern part of the country.

Clashes along the Line of Control have also intensified. On Tuesday, Pakistan shot down an Indian drone that allegedly violated its airspace — a charge India rejects, labeling the incident unprovoked.

While both India and Pakistan possess nuclear weapons, Islamabad has reiterated that it would only consider their use if the country’s existence were directly threatened-— a move that may have at least lowered the possibility of the ultimate escalation to full-scale conflict.
