Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp has voiced deep concern over Israel’s decision to block all humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that such aid “must not be used as leverage.”

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Veldkamp said, “I have expressed my concern to Israeli authorities about reports that they are halting humanitarian aid to Gaza.” He added, “The Netherlands urges all parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and stresses the importance of international humanitarian law.” The minister also reiterated his full support for the immediate release of all hostages held in the region.

Israel Halts Aid Following End of Truce Agreement

Veldkamp’s comments came in response to an announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, which stated that “as of this morning, entry of all goods and supplies to the Gaza Strip will be halted.”

The decision follows the conclusion of the first phase of a truce agreement, which began on January 19 and officially ended on Saturday after six weeks. The agreement had temporarily eased tensions and allowed for the delivery of essential supplies to Gaza, where humanitarian conditions remain dire.

The Dutch minister’s remarks underscore growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the potential consequences of using aid as a political tool. Veldkamp’s call for adherence to international humanitarian law reflects broader appeals from the global community for all parties to prioritize civilian welfare and de-escalate tensions in the region.
