IDF To Call Up 60,000 Reservists for Gaza, Possible Intervention in Syria
Facing mounting challenges over dwindling troop numbers and rising domestic concern for Israeli hostages held in Gaza, the Israeli military is reportedly gearing up to call up large numbers of reservists and escalate its campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli media confirm that at least 60,000 reservists will be called up, most of whom will be serving in Gaza, but some of whom will be serving on the Lebanese and Syrian borders as well.
As reported by Yedioth Ahronoth, “With the 36th Division continuing its offensive in Rafah (southern Gaza), the Israeli army is preparing to ramp up its military efforts in Gaza next week if no progress is made in negotiations over a potential agreement.”
Furthermore, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held urgent security talks with key ministers and military leaders on Friday to discuss expanding operations, with the Security Cabinet expected to meet again on Sunday evening to formalize any strategic decisions.
One important point on the agenda is Syria, with many right-wing Israeli leaders calling on the Israeli military to intervene in Syria to protect the ethno-religious Druze community from violence by the HTS-led Syrian government.
Meanwhile, Hamas has proposed a deal involving the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the liberation of Palestinian detainees terms that Tel Aviv has declined.
