Israel-Gaza Conflict: UN Worker Killed, Protests Escalate

Israeli Airstrike Kills UN Worker, Injures Five in Gaza, Health Ministry Reports

In a recent escalation of violence, an Israeli airstrike has killed one United Nations worker and injured five others in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The strike targeted a UN facility in the central governorate, with the injured personnel rushed to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for treatment.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have denied responsibility for the attack, urging media outlets to exercise caution when reporting unverified claims. "The military calls on media outlets to act responsibly regarding unverified reports," the IDF stated.

Rising Casualties and Domestic Protests

Since the latest wave of Israeli military operations began, at least 400 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 180 children, with over 600 others injured, according to local authorities. The total death toll since October 7 has now reached approximately 50,000.

Meanwhile, in Israel, protests have erupted against the renewed conflict. Demonstrators blocked the main entrance to Jerusalem as they marched toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence, as reported by The Times of Israel. Protesters expressed opposition to the resumption of attacks on Gaza and the government’s attempts to dismiss Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.

“It’s time to end this madness before we don’t have anyone to save, before we don’t have a country left,” protest leader Shikma Bressler told the crowd, according to the newspaper.

Political Motivations Behind the Conflict

Some analysts suggest that the renewed hostilities may be part of a contingency plan by Netanyahu to reinstate far-right politician Itamar Ben-Gvir into his administration, thereby shoring up support for his coalition government and preventing its collapse. Others speculate that Netanyahu’s actions could be aimed at undermining hostage negotiations, potentially empowering pro-war factions within his government.

The situation remains fluid, with international observers calling for an immediate de-escalation to prevent further loss of life and humanitarian catastrophe.
