At least 30 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Fahmi Al-Jirjawi school in Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood, where displaced families had sought refuge. Eyewitness videos showed charred bodies, including children, and survivors engulfed in flames as fires swept through tents and classrooms.

The Israeli military claimed the site housed a Hamas “command and control center” but provided no evidence to support the allegation.

Medical sources described scenes of chaos, with rescuers unable to reach victims due to intense fires.

Jabalia Home Destroyed in Separate Strike

A second airstrike leveled a multi-story residential building in Jabalia, northern Gaza, killing 19 people and injuring others. Eyewitnesses reported the structure, sheltering displaced families, was “completely destroyed”. The attack occurred amid a broader Israeli offensive targeting over 200 sites in Gaza in 48 hours, part of what the IDF describes as efforts to dismantle Hamas.

Humanitarian Catastrophe Deepens

The strikes coincide with a near-total blockade on aid since March 2025, exacerbating famine conditions. UN agencies report only 100–107 aid trucks entered Gaza daily last week, far below the 500–600 required to meet basic needs. Over 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are displaced, with many families fleeing bombardment multiple times. The Gaza Health Ministry states the death toll since October 2023 now exceeds 54,000, including 16,500 children.

International Condemnation and Legal Actions

At a Madrid summit, 20 nations and organizations condemned Israel’s offensive as “inhumane,” with Spain urging sanctions and an arms embargo. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) reaffirmed arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes, including starvation as a method of warfare. South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has drawn interventions from over a dozen nations, including Ireland and Türkiye.
