A recent YouGov poll, commissioned by Action for Humanity and the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), shows that 55 percent of Britons oppose Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has killed over 55,000 people.

Of those, 82 percent believe the actions constitute genocide, translating to 45 percent of UK adults viewing the campaign as genocidal.

The survey, conducted in early June 2025 with 2,010 respondents, underscores a growing public sentiment against Israel’s aggression, with significant support for enforcing international legal measures.

Strong Support for Accountability

The poll indicates robust backing for legal action, with 65 percent of Britons supporting the enforcement of the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the UK.

Among Labour Party voters in the 2024 election, opposition is even stronger, with 68 percent against Israel’s actions and 87 percent of those labeling it genocide.

Additionally, 78 percent of Labour voters support enforcing the ICC warrant.

The UK government is totally out of touch with the British public they are supposed to represent,” said Jonathan Purcell of the ICJP, highlighting the disconnect between public opinion and government policy.

Calls for Stronger Measures

Public sentiment also leans toward recognizing Palestinian statehood, with 30 percent favoring immediate recognition and 19 percent supporting it at a later date.

Among Labour voters, 43 percent back immediate recognition, and 56 percent support a Gaza visa scheme akin to “Homes for Ukraine.”

Despite the UK’s suspension of 30 arms export licenses to Israel in 2024, critics argue that the government’s response lacks urgency.

The government’s failure to recognise the scale of the crimes being inflicted upon Gaza is not just putting them on the wrong side of history, it’s putting them on the wrong side of the present day,” said Othman Moqbel, head of Action for Humanity.
