Yemen’s Houthis Launch Missile Strike on Israel’s Nevatim Air Base

Hypersonic Missile Attack Marks Second Operation in 24 Hours

Houthi Missile Targets Israeli Air Base

Yemen’s Houthis, also known as Ansarallah, launched a hypersonic ballistic missile attack on Israel’s Nevatim Air Base in the Negev region on Sunday, marking their second strike on the facility within 24 hours.

The group’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, confirmed the operation, stating the missile “successfully” hit the target.

These operations will not be ceased until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted,” Saree declared, emphasizing the group’s intent to continue enhancing its military capabilities to address ongoing regional challenges.

Israeli Defense Response

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the missile, launched from Yemen, was intercepted outside Israeli territory.

The attack triggered sirens in the eastern Negev, Arava region, and near the Dead Sea.

The IDF’s statement followed a similar incident a day earlier, when the Houthis claimed another missile strike on the same base.

Israel had also reported intercepting that attempt, asserting it had foiled the operation.

Regional Context and Houthi Objectives

The Houthis have intensified their military actions in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, particularly in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Sunday’s strike underscores their stated commitment to escalating operations until Israel halts its military actions in Gaza and lifts the blockade.

The group’s use of hypersonic missiles signals an advancement in their arsenal, raising concerns about the potential for further regional escalation.

Broader Conflict Dynamics

The strike coincides with ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan noted, “Hamas is ready to accept an agreement that goes beyond the ceasefire, and its goal is permanent peace with Israel.”

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani condemned the use of hunger as a weapon against Palestinians, affirming Qatar’s commitment to ending the war.

Despite these efforts, Israel has rejected proposals that do not include Hamas’s disarmament, while Egypt has demanded clarity on the status of hostages held in Gaza.
