
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call to discuss pressing global conflicts, including the ongoing war in Gaza.
The ministers emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in the 22-month conflict between Israel and Hamas.
They also highlighted the importance of ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
The conversation covered other regional issues, such as the situation in Syria, Iran’s nuclear program, and instability in Africa.
The Gaza genocide which has has killed at least 62,064 people and wounded 156,573, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths in the enclave.
Egypt, alongside Qatar and the US, has been mediating to secure a resolution but has not yet achieved a breakthrough.
Recently, Israel’s security cabinet approved a plan to take full military control of Gaza before transferring authority to a transitional Arab administration, a move criticized by the UN as ethnic cleansing and by Moscow as risking forced civilian expulsion.
Beyond Gaza, Lavrov and Abdelatty discussed the Ukraine crisis, with Lavrov sharing outcomes from a recent Russia-US summit in Alaska.
They also addressed instability in Africa, where Russia has been expanding its military, economic, and political ties.
The ministers reviewed ways to strengthen Russia-Egypt relations, focusing on foreign policy coordination and business cooperation.
They committed to preparing for the Russia-Arab Summit in Moscow on October 15 and the Russia-Africa Ministerial Conference in Cairo on November 18–19.
