France has announced plans to utilize the interest generated from frozen Russian assets to allocate an additional 195 million euros (approximately $211 million) toward funding military equipment for Ukraine, according to Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu. In an interview with the French newspaper La Tribune, Lecornu revealed that the funds would be directed toward supplying Ukraine with essential arms, including 155-mm artillery shells and glide bombs compatible with the Mirage 2000 fighter jets that France has already provided to the country.

In addition to this financial support, France also intends to transfer some of its older armored vehicles to Ukraine, including AMX-10RC reconnaissance vehicles and personnel carriers. These contributions are part of France’s ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Lecornu emphasized the significance of the frozen Russian assets, stating that the interest accrued from these funds would serve as a critical resource for Ukraine’s military needs. “Thanks to the interest generated from frozen Russian assets, we will be able to tap into new funds worth 195 million euros,” he explained. This move underscores France’s commitment to supporting Ukraine while leveraging financial mechanisms to ensure sustained assistance.

The decision to provide older armored vehicles reflects France’s strategy to modernize its own military inventory while simultaneously aiding Ukraine. The AMX-10RC vehicles, though older, are still considered effective in combat scenarios and could play a valuable role in Ukraine’s defense operations. This dual approach of financial and material support highlights France’s multifaceted contribution to Ukraine’s resistance efforts.
