Yaroslav is the fourth general to be assassinated in Russia since the start of the Ukraine war. The list includes Lt. General Igor Kirillov, Chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Protection Troops. Kirillov was killed in December 2024 by a bomb concealed in an electric scooter outside a Moscow apartment building. Mikhail Shatsky, Deputy General Designer at the Mars Design Bureau, was also assassinated. Shatsky was involved in modernizing Russian cruise missiles and drones; he was shot dead in a Moscow park in December 2024. The SBU (Ukrainian military intelligence) claimed responsibility for both assassinations.
