A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale has struck central Myanmar, leading to significant destruction in Mandalay. The quake's epicenter was located approximately 17.2 kilometers from the city at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Witnesses reported multiple building collapses, including a five-story structure and a tea shop, trapping several individuals inside.

Additionally, several bridges, including the historic Ava Bridge also known as the Old Sagaing Bridge, collapsed due to the quake. Emergency services have begun assessing the situation in Mandalay, where debris littered the streets. Initial reports indicate injuries, but official casualty figures are still pending.

The earthquake triggered tremors across the region, with significant shaking felt in Bangkok, Thailand, leading to a mass evacuation of buildings. A high-rise construction site in Bangkok experienced a partial collapse, resulting in at least one death and numerous injuries. Authorities are currently responding to the incident.

Tremors were also reported in southwestern China, particularly in Yunnan province, but no casualties have been confirmed there. The full impact of the earthquake on Myanmar's infrastructure and population is still being evaluated as authorities work to gather information.
