Liverpool Man Faces 31 Charges After Parade Crash Injures 134
A 53-year-old former Royal Marine, Paul Doyle, faces 31 criminal charges after allegedly driving his Ford Galaxy into a crowd of Liverpool football fans celebrating their Premier League title win on May 26.
The incident, which injured 134 people, occurred on Water Street as supporters dispersed from a victory parade.
Doyle, a father of three from Croxteth, appeared emotional during a recent hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, where prosecutors outlined the expanded charges.
New Charges Emerge
Initially charged with seven counts, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, Doyle now faces 24 additional charges.
These include 19 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, three counts of wounding with intent, and one count of affray.
The charges relate to 29 victims, ranging in age from six months to 77 years, with six children, including two babies aged six and seven months, among those injured.
The court heard that the incident turned a joyous celebration of Liverpool’s 20th English top-flight title into a scene of chaos.
Court Proceedings and Next Steps
During the 20-minute hearing, attended by victims’ relatives and over 20 media members, Doyle did not enter pleas.
Wearing a grey T-shirt and joining via videolink from prison, he appeared visibly moved.
Judge Andrew Menary adjourned the case to September 4, when Doyle is expected to enter pleas, as his legal team reviews key evidence.
A provisional trial date is set for November 24, with the case expected to last three to four weeks.
