Russell Brand Faces New Rape and Sexual Assault Charges as Case Expands

Additional allegations bring further scrutiny as court dates are scheduled

British comedian, actor and broadcaster Russell Brand has been charged with two further sexual offences, including one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The new charges relate to allegations made by two additional women and expand an ongoing criminal case that has been under investigation since late 2023.

Brand, who is 50, has previously denied wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty to earlier charges brought against him.

New Allegations

In a statement, police said the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the additional charges following a review of evidence.

The new rape allegation is said to have occurred between 7 February 2009 and 1 March 2009 and involves one woman.

The new sexual assault allegation relates to a separate woman and is alleged to have taken place between 31 August 2009 and 1 December 2009.

These charges are in addition to five counts issued earlier, which include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault involving four women.

Detectives began investigating the case after allegations emerged through media reporting by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches in September 2023.

Police said the investigation remains active as further information continues to be assessed.

Court Proceedings

Brand is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 in connection with the two new charges.

A separate trial concerning the original five charges is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026.

Those earlier allegations relate to incidents involving four women and span several years.

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, who is leading the investigation, said:

The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.

He added that investigators are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

Police also noted that independent support services remain available to individuals affected by sexual abuse allegations.

Brand remains on bail under existing conditions while awaiting future court proceedings.
