Just two days after rattling the economy with sweeping tariff announcements, President Donald Trump doubled down on his trade stance, declaring it unchangeable while staying comfortably isolated in his luxurious Florida estate. On Friday morning, he left his Mar-a-Lago resort for a round of golf at his nearby course, posting online that “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GET RICH.”
Wearing his trademark red “Make America Great Again” hat and white polo, he acknowledged a small group of cheering supporters as he passed by palm-lined streets a familiar scene during his visits. Though he wasn’t scheduled for public appearances, Trump was expected to attend a candlelit dinner later that evening for MAGA Inc, a political group aligned with him. The previous day, he had spent time in Miami at another of his golf properties, attending a Saudi-funded tournament, where he arrived via Marine One and was chauffeured by his son Eric in a golf cart.
Democrats sharply criticized President Trump for remaining in what Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer described as a "billionaire bubble," as millions of Americans watched their investments tumble. Senator Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico added to the rebuke, saying, “While the American people are trying to put food on the table, I see that Donald Trump’s out there playing golf.” Luján urged the president to connect with everyday Americans, suggesting he “go into a grocery store, do some walking, [and start] talking to folks,” rather than retreating to luxury and leisure during economic uncertainty.
