Starbucks has announced a new dress code for its baristas, effective May 12, which includes specific guidelines on attire worn beneath their iconic green aprons. As part of the updated policy, employees will be required to wear a solid black shirt paired with khaki, black, or blue denim bottoms. The shirts can be either short-sleeved or long-sleeved and may be collared or collarless, according to a memo issued by the company on Monday.

In addition, Starbucks will provide each employee with two free T-shirts to meet the new uniform requirements. The company explained that the updated dress code is designed to help the green aprons stand out more prominently, while also creating a more consistent and familiar experience for customers.

This change comes as part of Starbucks' broader efforts to enhance the customer experience, aiming to create a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere in its stores. The updated uniform policy reflects the company’s focus on reinforcing its brand image and improving the in-store environment for both employees and customers.

The company said in an official statement :

By updating our dress code, we can deliver a more consistent coffeehouse experience that will also bring simpler and clearer guidance to our partners, which means they can focus on what matters most, crafting great beverages and fostering connections with customers.
