Trump Considers Delaying Tariffs On China To Secure TikTok Deal

Trump Considers delaying Tariffs on China in Exchange for a TikTok Deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his willingness to delay tariffs on China to facilitate a deal for TikTok's sale by its parent company, ByteDance, to a non-Chinese buyer. Trump stated that he is prepared to extend the deadline until April 5 to allow more time for a suitable buyer to be secured.

The Trump administration has postponed the enforcement of the law passed under the Biden administration to ban TikTok over national security concerns. This move is widely seen as an effort by Trump to boost his popularity, particularly among younger generations who are the app’s most frequent users.

Trump's comments come after he imposed new 25% tariffs on all foreign cars and car parts imported into the United States, further escalating the global trade war initiated by his administration.

With respect to TikTok, and China is going to have to play a role in that, possibly in the form of an approval, maybe, and I think they'll do that. Maybe I'll give them a little reduction in tariffs or something to get it done.

China's foreign ministry responded to the comments made by Trump, stating in an official statement:

China has repeatedly stated its position. China's opposition to the imposition of additional tariffs has always been consistent and clear.
