Danish Foreign Minister Hits Back at Criticism From Trump Administration
The Danish Foreign Minister responded on Sunday to the Trump administration's criticism of Greenland and Denmark in a video posted on social media. In his statement, he emphasized that Denmark is already making significant investments in Arctic security and remains open to further cooperation with the United States, The video was published after U.S. Vice President JD Vance visited Greenland.“You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. That has to change.”
Many accusations and many allegations have been made. And of course we are open to criticism. But let me be completely honest: we do not appreciate the tone in which it is being delivered. This is not how you speak to your close allies. And I still consider Denmark and the United States to be close allies.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen
Vance visited Greenland on Friday amid widespread uproar and outrage from the island's residents. During his visit, he criticized Denmark for not investing enough in Arctic security and accused the Danish government of neglecting the needs of the people of Greenland. Vance also pushed for the independence of the island and that the United states will stand with Greenland to achieve independence.
Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland.
JD Vance
