Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republic Srpska (RS), one of the constituent entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), has proposed RS joining a military agreement that was recently signed by Serbia and Hungary.
The statement came at a session of the RS Government celebrating where Dodik claimed that RS had the right to join such agreements.
A Bosnian court issued an arrest warrant for Dodik on March 27th in regards to his conviction on charges of refusing to adhere to court rulings back in February, where he received a one year prison sentence. Bosnian authorities had not yet sought to detain Dodik due to fears of escalating tensions in the country.
Dodik would arrive in Moscow the following Monday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Interpol would subsequently decline issuing a “red notice” on Dodik that would have put him on an international wanted list.
On Friday, Germany's Minister for European Affairs and Climate, Ana Luehrmann, was declared persona non-grata by the RS government and was expelled from the territory of the RS. Luehrmann was in Banja Luka, traditionally the center of power in RS, to meet with representatives of the PDP (Party of Democratic Progress), the political opposition to the government.
Dodik would go on to state on X (formerly Twitter) "She left. I cannot believe she is so naive that after all the lies and insults she has made, simply to please the Sarajevo crowd, she expected us to silently watch her gallivanting around Republika Srpska,"
