The Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers have issued a strong condemnation of China's activities in the Indo-Pacific region. In a statement released on March 14, the ministers criticized what they termed China's "illicit, provocative, coercive, and dangerous actions" that threaten regional stability. They specifically highlighted concerns over China's land reclamation efforts and the establishment of military outposts in contested waters.

In response, China rejected the G7's claims, stating that the group's remarks were filled with "arrogance and prejudice." A spokesperson from the Chinese embassy in Canada accused the G7 of ignoring facts and interfering in China's internal matters. China has consistently maintained its sovereignty over Taiwan and the South China Sea, areas of significant geopolitical tension.

The G7 statement reaffirmed the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait and emphasized that any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo would not be accepted. It expressed particular concern over China's military maneuvers in the South China Sea, which is a crucial maritime route for global trade, accounting for a substantial portion of international shipping.

Additionally, the G7 criticized China's use of dangerous vessel maneuvers and water cannons against commercial vessels from the Philippines and Vietnam. They called for adherence to international law and the protection of freedom of navigation in all maritime regions.
