North Korea is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on October 10, 2025, with a major display of international solidarity as high-level dignitaries from allied nations gather in Pyongyang for the commemorations. The event underscores the country's efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with key global partners.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang is attending the celebrations, representing the highest-level visit by a Chinese leader since 2019. As a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party's Politburo, Premier Li's presence underscores the deep and strategic relationship between the two neighboring countries. His participation highlights the continued importance of the China-DPRK alliance on the world stage.

Russia is represented by Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian President and current deputy head of Russia’s Security Council. His attendance signals the continued strengthening of cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow. The two countries have recently deepened their ties, with Russia's foreign minister describing their relationship as an "invincible fighting brotherhood".

The celebrations also see the participation of leaders from traditional socialist allies in Southeast Asia. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Tô Lâm, is in Pyongyang for the event. His visit holds dual significance, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the DPRK. He was warmly welcomed by Chairman Kim Jong Un with a formal ceremony featuring a 21-gun salute. Similarly, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith has arrived in Pyongyang, reaffirming the long-standing diplomatic relations between Laos and the DPRK. A delegation from Iran, led by Mohammad Ali Amani, secretary-general of the Islamic Coalition Party, is also present.

During a visit to the Party Founding Museum on the eve of the anniversary, Chairman Kim Jong Un emphasized the critical need to preserve the Party's revolutionary ideals and consolidate strict internal order. He stated that the leadership would "eliminate any movements" that threaten the authority of the Workers' Party, ensuring its leadership prestige is defended at all costs. The anniversary is being marked with a massive military parade and nationwide events, showcasing the country's unity and strength.
