Russia and India have reaffirmed their shared commitment to a joint and uncompromising fight against terrorism, following high-level meetings in Moscow between Russian officials and an Indian parliamentary delegation.

The talks, held during a three-day visit by the Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation, focused on expanding cooperation across multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

“A decisive commitment to an uncompromising joint fight against all forms of terrorism was confirmed,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in an official statement.

India Seeks Global Backing After Kashmir Attack

The visit comes in the wake of a devastating terrorist attack in Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 Indian civilians. Indian MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, leading the delegation, told Russian officials that India's response had been “measured and necessary,” emphasizing that New Delhi will no longer tolerate terrorism or nuclear blackmail from its neighbors.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs echoed this position, underlining a “zero-tolerance policy” on terrorism and expressing confidence in Russia as a longstanding and reliable strategic partner.

Russia Supports India Amid Regional Tensions

Russian officials expressed solidarity with India and reiterated their support amid rising tensions with Pakistan, which New Delhi has accused of sponsoring cross-border terrorist groups.

“We seek an understanding that Russia is by our side in this time of difficulty,” Indian delegates told reporters, adding that it was important for the international community to recognize India’s long-standing struggle against state-sponsored terrorism.

The delegation’s Moscow visit is the first leg of a European outreach mission, with further diplomatic stops scheduled in Slovenia, Latvia, and Spain.

Defense Cooperation Strengthened

In addition to counter-terrorism, the two sides discussed ongoing defense cooperation. Indian military officials highlighted the effectiveness of Russian-supplied equipment, such as the S-400 missile defense systems and BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, which were jointly developed by the two countries.

India continues to rely on Russian defense technology to maintain regional security balance, especially amid escalating tensions with both Pakistan and China.
