Iran To Meet Russia And China Today Ahead of Saturday's Talks With U.S.

A trilateral meeting at the expert-level will take place in Moscow on Tuesday with representatives of Russia, China and Iran to talk about finding diplomatic solutions to the current tensions between the U.S. and Iran over Iran’s nuclear program.

This will be the second trilateral meeting between the countries, the first taking place in Beijing on March 14th, which was hosted by China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia and Iran. 

The meeting comes ahead of a first round of indirect talks that will take place in Oman on Saturday.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have been high since the U.S. President Donald Trump sent the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei a threatening letter back in March and subsequently deployed vast air and naval assets to the Indian Ocean. 

Trump has also repeatedly threatened Iran with military action if they did not come to a deal on Iran’s nuclear program. 

Iran has rejected direct talks with the U.S., stating they would only engage in indirect talks through mediators, with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi stating on X (Formerly Twitter) “It is as much an opportunity as it is a test." confirming Saturday's talks. 

President Trump has repeatedly claimed that Iran wants to have direct talks. Last Thursday, Trump would say to reporters “They wanted to use intermediaries. I don’t think that’s necessarily true anymore”. 

On Monday, while meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House, Trump claimed that the talks planned for Saturday would be taking place directly, something Tehran would later contradict.
