U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday for his annual physical examination, as public attention surrounding several recent health issues continued to draw scrutiny ahead of his 80th birthday next month.

Trump, who became the oldest person to assume the presidency when he began his second term in January 2025, has repeatedly portrayed himself as more energetic and physically fit than former President Joe Biden, who left office last year at age 82 after facing questions about his health and fitness for office.

The president’s latest visit to Walter Reed marked his third trip to the military medical center in the past 13 months.

Health Questions

Recent photographs showing a blotchy rash on Trump’s neck renewed public discussion about the president’s health following earlier images published in July 2025 that showed swollen ankles and a bruised hand partially concealed with makeup.

White House physician Sean Barbabella said Trump was using a common cream as “a preventative skin treatment” for the rash but did not disclose additional details about the condition.

Barbabella previously stated that the president’s earlier ailments were benign and that examinations found no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the swelling in Trump’s legs was linked to a “common” vein condition, while the bruising on his hand resulted from extensive handshaking.

Medical Scrutiny

Trump said last October that he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam as part of a second physical evaluation, although the White House initially declined to provide details about the reason for the scan.

Leavitt later described the results as showing “exceptional physical health.”

Medical experts noted that MRIs are not typically included in routine annual physical examinations and are generally used to obtain more detailed imaging.

In a memo following Trump’s second exam, Barbabella said the president’s cardiac age was measured at approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.

Trump has also faced questions after appearing to close his eyes during several meetings, including a Cabinet session earlier this year.

“Some people said, he closed his eyes. Look, it got pretty boring,” Trump said in February.
