Trump's Health Exam Reveals Excellent Condition

Physician cites robust cognitive and physical function, notes minor conditions

President Donald Trump is in "excellent cognitive and physical health" and remains fully fit to serve as commander in chief, according to a medical evaluation released by the White House on Sunday.

The assessment, conducted by Navy Captain Sean Barbabella at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, followed a nearly five-hour examination on Friday. The president underwent neurological screenings, cardiac tests, bloodwork, and abdominal ultrasounds, with no abnormalities detected.

Cognitive and Physical Assessments
Trump, 78, scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test designed to detect early signs of dementia. The evaluation includes tasks such as recalling words, naming animals, and drawing a clock.

"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State," Barbabella wrote in the memo. The report also noted Trump’s "active lifestyle," including frequent golfing, as a contributor to his well-being.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump boasted about his performance, saying, "I got every answer right." He added, "Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul."

Medical History and Minor Conditions
The exam revealed Trump weighs 224 pounds (101 kg)—down 20 pounds since his last presidential physical in 2020—placing him in the overweight but not obese category based on body mass index.

His medical history includes well-controlled high cholesterol, for which he takes Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe, as well as aspirin for heart health. The report also noted minor conditions, including benign skin lesions, sun damage, and a past COVID-19 infection. A recent colonoscopy detected diverticulosis and a benign polyp, with a follow-up recommended in three years.

The memo documented scarring on Trump’s right ear from a gunshot wound sustained during an assassination attempt in July 2024. His former White House physician, Ronny Jackson, had previously described the injury as superficial.

Political Context
Trump, the oldest president to take office, has frequently questioned the fitness of his political rivals, including President Joe Biden, who faced scrutiny after a halting debate performance last year. Biden, 82, has resisted calls to take a cognitive test, stating his physicians never recommended one.

Presidential health disclosures remain voluntary, and past administrations have varied in transparency. Trump’s medical reports during his first term noted elevated cholesterol and weight but otherwise described him as healthy.

The latest evaluation marks the first detailed update since the assassination attempt and comes as Trump campaigns for a second term.
