Iran Signals Uncertainty Over Future U.S. Talks Amid Rising Tensions

Tehran cites ceasefire violations and maritime actions as doubts grow

Naffah

Iran has not decided whether it will participate in a second round of negotiations with the United States, signaling continued uncertainty amid rising tensions between the two countries.

A spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry said no plans had been finalized, as diplomatic efforts remain clouded by disputes over recent actions and rhetoric.

Negotiation Uncertainty

Iranian officials indicated that discussions about attending further talks remain unresolved, despite earlier plans for negotiations in Islamabad mediated by Pakistan.

The United States had announced a delegation to attend the talks, led by Vice-President JD Vance, alongside senior figures including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

However, Iranian state media reported that Tehran had no intention of participating under current conditions, citing concerns over what it described as a naval blockade, violations of a ceasefire, and continued threatening rhetoric from Washington.

The foreign ministry spokesperson said the United States had failed to learn from past experiences and accused it of undermining previous negotiation efforts through military actions and policy decisions.

Iran also emphasized that it had submitted a proposal during earlier discussions in Islamabad, but questioned the commitment of the U.S. to a constructive process.

Escalating Pressures

Tensions have intensified following reports of maritime incidents, including the seizure of an Iranian cargo ship, which analysts warn could further destabilize the situation.

Observers noted that such actions risk undermining the prospects for meaningful dialogue and could escalate conflict at a sensitive moment.

Iranian officials also warned that any new aggression by the United States or Israel would prompt a response from its armed forces.

Separately, Israeli authorities reported the arrest of two individuals suspected of spying for Iran, adding another layer of strain to the broader regional dynamics.

With a ceasefire deadline approaching, both sides face mounting pressure, while ongoing disputes over maritime security and regional influence continue to complicate diplomatic efforts.
