Two concerts in Russia by Ye, the US rapper formerly known as Kanye West, have officially been cancelled after weeks of uncertainty over whether the performances would proceed.
West had been scheduled to perform at Gazprom Arena in St Petersburg on October 10 and 11, in what would have been among the largest appearances by an international music star in Russia since Moscow launched its full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022.
Moscow-based organiser Say Agency confirmed the cancellation on Telegram on Wednesday, saying the concerts could not take place on the scheduled dates and that further information about the project would follow.
Uncertainty had surrounded the concerts since shortly after they were announced in mid-August.
Gazprom Arena said a week after the announcement that it had never signed a rental agreement with the promoters, meaning the performances could not take place at the stadium.
Say Agency subsequently said it was working to resolve the issue, but the shows remained in limbo without clear confirmation that they would proceed.
The venue also acknowledged receiving complaints about West's planned appearance.
West has not publicly commented on the cancellation.
The proposed concerts had drawn criticism in Russia over West's past remarks, praise for Adolf Hitler and use of Nazi imagery.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the planned performances unacceptable, citing what she described as West's "glorification" of Hitler.
Some Russian pro-war military bloggers also questioned hosting an American performer while the United States provides military and financial support to Ukraine.
West apologised in January for his previous antisemitic remarks, attributing them to an undiagnosed brain injury and untreated bipolar disorder.
The Russian cancellations add to disruptions affecting West's performances elsewhere.
Shows involving the rapper have also been cancelled in Poland, Italy and France, while a planned appearance at London's Wireless Festival last summer was abandoned after he was barred from entering the United Kingdom.
West has nevertheless performed this year in the United States, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands.
