Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out attacks on United States military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan on Wednesday, describing the operation as retaliation for recent US strikes on Iranian ports and islands in the Strait of Hormuz.
The announcement came after the United States attacked Qeshm Island and coastal facilities along the strategic waterway, following accusations that Iran had downed a US Apache helicopter earlier on Tuesday.
There was no immediate comment from the United States regarding the Iranian claims.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said it launched drone attacks against the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and the Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait, while also carrying out a long-range missile strike targeting an airbase in Azraq, Jordan.
The group claimed it struck 21 US targets and destroyed four of them, including an F-35 fighter jet hangar in Jordan.
The IRGC also said it shot down a US MQ-9 drone over the Iranian city of Jam.
Iran said earlier US attacks damaged a telecommunications tower in Sirik and destroyed two water tanks in the town.
Jordan’s military said it intercepted and shot down five missiles launched toward Azraq, adding that falling debris caused no casualties or material damage.
Air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait during the attacks.
Kuwait’s military reported intercepting hostile aerial targets in its airspace, while Bahrain said its air defenses destroyed several incoming Iranian drones and missiles.
Qatar condemned the attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, calling them a “flagrant violation” of sovereignty and a breach of international law.
Doha expressed solidarity with the three countries and urged efforts to prevent further escalation and restore regional stability.
Russia also voiced concern over the latest fighting between Washington and Tehran.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for restraint and urged both sides to immediately halt military attacks.
Iran, meanwhile, said its armed forces would not hesitate to respond to threats and accused the United States of undermining diplomatic efforts through repeated violations and military actions.
The latest confrontation follows renewed exchanges of fire involving Iran and Israel and adds further uncertainty to already fragile diplomatic efforts across the region.
