United Nations experts have called for the immediate dismantling of the U.S./Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), condemning it as a "covert military tool" exploiting starvation as a weapon of war. In a landmark statement endorsed by 19 special rapporteurs, the group denounced GHF’s operations as "an utterly disturbing breach of international law" that uses humanitarian cover to legitimize Israel’s blockade while enabling mass civilian casualties.
The GHF, established in February 2025 to replace UNRWA has overseen the killing of 1,373+ Palestinians at its aid sites since May. Israeli forces and U.S. contractors shot 859 of these victims near GHF distribution points, with snipers systematically targeting women, children, and elderly civilians struggling to access food. UN experts emphasized that branding these militarized zones "humanitarian" constitutes "an insult to humanitarian standards" and serves as "camouflage" for genocide.
Israel’s siege has precipitated a catastrophic famine, with Gaza’s Health Ministry confirming 180 starvation deaths, including 93 children in recent weeks. Hospitals report infants "without muscles or fat tissue, just skin over bone". Despite GHF claims of distributing 1.76 million food boxes, UNRWA notes Israel blocks 6,000 aid trucks at borders while permitting only 200 daily entries; less than half Gaza’s requirement. Experts unanimously classify this as a "war crime" under the Genocide Convention.
The GHF’s structure, entwining Israeli intelligence (Unit 8200), U.S. contractors like Safe Reach Solutions, and opaque NGOs exposes its role as a geopolitical weapon. Days after U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff inspected a GHF site, Israeli snipers killed 58 Palestinians nearby. The UN demands arms embargoes and sanctions against GHF executives, but Western governments continue funding Israel’s $3.8 billion military aid package.
With 90% of Gaza displaced and 60,000 dead, Palestinians organize underground soup kitchens while facing bombardment. "We’ve eaten animal feed until it ran out," testified survivor Ahmed Younes. Experts urge restoring UNRWA’s authority to flood Gaza with aid, stressing: "Seeing children die in their parents’ arms must shatter our complacency".
