Starmer: "World as We Know Is Gone", Will Announce Globalization Is Over

The comments come amid reports he will declare Monday that globalization has ended.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared Sunday that “The World as Know Has gone.” Writing an opinion piece for the British outlet, The Telegraph, Starmer addressed the recent tariffs issued by U.S. President Donald Trump, who levied a 10 percent tariff on the UK last week.

Starmer would go onto state that the tariffs levied by Trump to most countries in the world, including a 34 percent tariffs on China, has created a “new world”.

While Starmer stated he disagreed with Trump’s tariffs, he acknowledged that there is a reason why people are supporting Trump on this.

Darren Jones, chief secretary to the UK Treasury, would also go on the BBC on Sunday and declare that globalization “As we’ve known it for the last couple of decades” has ended.

This also comes amid reports that on Monday, Starmer will speak publicly and declare that “globalization has ended” and announce measures on how the UK will deal with the fallout from the Trump tariffs.

According to the report, Starmer will state he understands why Trump is taken an “America First” approach for the U.S. and acknowledge voters have not benefited from free trade and mass migration, two key tenets of globalization.

It is not reported at this time that Starmer will levy reciprocal tariffs on the U.S., and the speech and opinion article may be a way to try and not provoke Trump. This weekend, Starmer also backed down on a proposed bill to ban “legal but harmful” speech on social media after being warned earlier by the Trump Administration that such a law could affect future trade talks.
