Florida State University Shooting: Suspect Detained, Injuries Reported

Six Injured, One Critically, in FSU Shooting; Suspect in Custody

FSU Shooting Leaves Six Injured, One Critical; Suspect in Custody, Motive Unknown

A shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday afternoon has left at least six people injured, including one critically, according to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. The violence unfolded near the Student Union, triggering a full campus lockdown and shelter-in-place orders.

Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody, but have not yet released their identity or a possible motive. The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement urging the public to await verified updates.

Scenes of Chaos as Lockdown Unfolded

Emergency alerts sent across campus advised students and staff to lock doors, avoid windows, and remain sheltered. Police moved swiftly to evacuate key campus buildings, including the main library, where students were seen exiting with their hands raised in a tense and controlled sweep.

“I heard the gunshots and saw people running,” said Richard Rind, FSU’s Director of Transportation, who was sheltering nearby.“I’m shaking…It’s just a lot going on,” student Emily Palmer told local media.

Swift Law Enforcement Response

Police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) secured the scene and conducted systematic building clearances. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident, and officials say there is no ongoing threat to the campus.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expressed support, stating:

“Our prayers are with our FSU family.”

Attorney General James Uthmeier also confirmed that state agencies are actively assisting with the investigation.

Ongoing Communication and Support

FSU’s official social media channels have been providing regular updates, warning students and staff to remain cautious until law enforcement gives an official all-clear. Counseling services and emergency resources are being mobilized for those affected.

The shooting has reignited discussions about campus safety, gun violence, and emergency preparedness at higher education institutions across the United States.
