JD Vance's Planned Greenland Visit Sparks Tensions Over US Interests
Vice President JD Vance and his wife plan to visit Greenland on Friday after the trip was previously canceled due to a significant diplomatic controversy caused by Nordic countries not condemning the visit, and widespread anger and disapproval from Greenlanders and Danes, who view the visit as an act of intimidation due to the lack of prior consultation.
Reportedly the Visit on Friday will remove the potential risk of the Vice president violating the diplomatic custom of sending an official delegation to another country without a formal invitation, during his one day visit the vice president will stay at the U.S. Space Force outpost at Pituffik removing any potential danger of crossing paths with angry residents in the Island.
Additionally, the Dutch Prime Minister complained that the visit created unacceptable pressure and was quoted by the Dutch public broadcaster DR, saying:
We really want to work with the Americans on defense and security in the kingdom. But Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.

Furthermore, the fears of Greenlanders about being taken over by the United States persist, as U.S. President Donald Trump has not given up on the idea. In an interview this Wednesday, he reiterated that he is unsure whether the residents of the island want to be part of the U.S., but he believes they need to be convinced.
But I think we have to do it, and we have to convince them.
