Bahrain has accused Iran of launching multiple drones toward its territory, describing the incident as a serious violation of its sovereignty and international law while warning that the attack endangered civilians and threatened ongoing regional de-escalation efforts.
The Bahraini Foreign Ministry said several drones targeted the country during the early morning hours but did not specify the locations or intended targets.
No immediate reports of damage were released.
The alleged attack came amid heightened tensions following overnight U.S. airstrikes against Iranian military sites and continued instability around the Strait of Hormuz.
The alleged drone attack prompted swift condemnation from Gulf states and regional organizations.
Qatar said it "strongly condemns" the Iranian attacks on Bahrain and emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, de-escalation, and building on the gains achieved under the memorandum of understanding to strengthen regional and international security.
The United Arab Emirates described the reported strikes as a flagrant violation of Bahrain's sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability.
Kuwait also condemned the alleged attack, saying continued aggression undermines regional and international efforts aimed at reducing tensions while expressing full solidarity with Bahrain.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi likewise condemned what he called the "treacherous Iranian attacks," saying civilian infrastructure and properties had been targeted.
The developments unfolded alongside another security incident in the Strait of Hormuz, where a tanker came under attack, although no group immediately claimed responsibility.
The crew was reported safe, and no environmental damage was reported.
Separately, a multinational maritime body overseen by the U.S. Navy announced an expansion of a shipping route near Oman's coast to accommodate both inbound and outbound vessel traffic while warning that threats to commercial shipping remain substantial.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had targeted several locations belonging to what it described as the U.S. military in the region without identifying specific sites.
Meanwhile, the United States said its overnight strikes targeted Iranian missile, drone, and coastal radar locations as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continued under a 60-day interim agreement aimed at addressing broader regional security issues.
