Russian UN Representative to Condemn the IDF Strikes Over Syrian Territory
On the 25th of March, a UN Security Council meeting was held to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria, within which each representative expressed the importance of solving the crisis in Syria, protecting all Syrians "regardless of ethnicity and religion", and reaffirms the UN-SC's strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and calls on all States to respect these principles and to refrain from any action or interference that may further destabilize Syria.
Within this briefing, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN "Dmitry Polyanskiy" came across with a statement that further intensifies the UN's position, at the same time shows the actions taken by the Russian Federation leader, President Putin, since the start of the Syrian Crisis.
Polyanskiy stated that over the time that has elapsed since last December, the change of power in the Syrian Arab Republic has not spared the people of that country from many humanitarian and socio-economic problems, nor from external threats that are dangerously increasing, within which he obligates the international community to provide comprehensive and depoliticized support, as there are "no other alternatives" to solve this matter.
The Syrian people must finally have the right to live in dignity, peace and well-being.

Going on with the statement, the Russian UN representative expresses condemnation and the need to swiftly solve the recent clashes within Syrian lands and borders, mainly speaking:
The ongoing clashes in Aleppo and the northeast of the country, as they have been claiming lives of people and destroying civilian infrastructure.
The recent outbreak of violence in the coastal areas of Latakia and Tartus, where hundreds of civilians were killed and injured, mostly representatives of Alawite, Christian and other ethnic and religious minorities. In that regard, Russia's UN representative showed gratefulness to all Council members for promptly agreeing on the UN-SC's presidential statement adopted on Russia-US joint initiative that condemns the massacres in Latakia and Tartus, and emphasizes the need for a swift investigation in line with international standards to bring all those responsible to justice.
The recent clashes that took place along the Lebanese-Syrian border, "with both sides using artillery and regular army units thereby". He stated that Russia "welcomes the decision to have a ceasefire" between both Lebanon and Syria, and they call on Damascus and Beirut to "take all necessary steps to prevent any further incidents on the border and to minimize the risks of their spiraling out of control."
Israel's ongoing airstrikes on Syria and the continued occupation by West Jerusalem of its territory. "We strongly condemn the strikes by the IDF, which in the recent days alone have killed and injured over 20 people in the south of Homs province". He continued: "We urge West Jerusalem to return to upholding its obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and to withdraw its units from the buffer zone and other Syrian territories occupied since December 2024."
Moreover, Polyanski mentioned that President Putin sent a letter to the Head of the Syrian State, Ahmed al-Sharaa, whereby he expressed his support for the efforts to promptly stabilize the situation in the country in order to ensure its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity. Putin also reaffirmed that Russia is ready to develop practical interaction with Damascus on the whole range of issues they have on the bilateral agenda so as to strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between both countries.
The UN representative concluded his speech by saying: "We hope that the Syrian people will finally be able to overcome with dignity all the challenges facing the country. Russia is highly interested in seeing this accomplished."
